Hello everyone. Happy 2022. It has been a while since I wrote something here but I am making a return. Here’s what I’ve been up to:
I spent all of January traveling around Italy for school, visiting Siracusa, Palermo, Naples, and Rome.
When I got back, I continued to do part-time work for Prysm.xyz where we recently launched Squads, the easiest way to buy NFT’s with your friends.
It is my last semester at college, so I am spending a little more time with friends before going out into the workforce full time.
With that said I want to come back to this newsletter and write again. I’m going to start short and build my way back up.
Looks Matter
Over the past year or so I have learned an incredible amount about how a product needs to be seamless with a great design and easy user interface. I also learned how products need to simply look good. They need to have appealing colors with the highest quality.
Recently, I’ve learned this matters EVERYWHERE in a startup. Everything from a Twitter image to what emojis you pick in a blog post. Looks matter almost everywhere you go in a startup, from the product to the copy on marketing materials. I used to obsess over this with my first startup, I remember I got in an argument over which font we should use for usernames. I then chilled out and thought, well if the product is good, the looks aren’t crazy important.
Turns out I was kind of right in the first place and these two properties work in parallel. Great looks can translate to a great product.
My takeaway here is to spend as much time investing in the best quality designers and design assets. I personally have found that my newsletters perform better when I have good visual assets that match the story. I have found that tweets perform better when they have insane visual assets (Think @islandsXYZ). One of my favorite startups, Titan, also just did a massive rebrand, check out their new site here.
That is all for today, if I missed anything, let me know. I am here to learn.
I’ll see you soon.
